Orthotics

Orthotics for Foot Support, Pain Relief, and Better Movement

What Are Orthotics?

Orthotics are medical devices worn to support, align, and improve the function of the feet and lower limbs. At Body Mechanix, we offer both custom-made and off-the-shelf orthotics tailored to your individual needs—whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply seeking better comfort and balance throughout your day.

Orthotics are commonly used to correct biomechanical issues, reduce pain, and enhance mobility. By redistributing pressure and supporting proper alignment, they help your body move more efficiently and comfortably.

Types of Orthotics

We offer a range of orthotic solutions, including:

  • Shoe Inserts: These are the most widely used orthotics, placed inside your shoes to support your arches, absorb shock, and reduce pressure points.

  • Ankle Braces: Designed to stabilise and protect the ankle joint, ideal for injuries or chronic instability.

  • Custom Orthotics: Tailored specifically to your foot shape and condition, these offer advanced correction and support for complex or persistent problems.

Benefits of Orthotics

Orthotics can help with:

  • Pain Relief: Alleviate discomfort caused by common foot, ankle, and lower limb issues.

  • Improved Balance: Helps stabilise your gait and coordination.

  • Enhanced Function: Realign the foot and support more efficient movement.

  • Reduced Stress: Offload pressure from vulnerable joints or soft tissues.

Conditions Treated with Orthotics

Orthotics may be recommended for managing or alleviating:

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Heel Spurs

  • Shin Splints

  • Ankle Instability

  • Morton’s Neuroma

  • Arthritis

  • Diabetic Foot Conditions

  • Metatarsalgia

Wearing In Your New Orthotics

It’s important to let your body adjust to new orthotics gradually. We recommend the following wear-in schedule:

  • Day 1: Up to 1 hour

  • Day 2: Up to 2 hours

  • Day 3: Up to 3 hours

  • …and so on, increasing daily until you can wear them comfortably throughout the day.

Once you’re able to wear them consistently, you can begin using them during sports or physical activity, initially for shorter durations than usual.

If you experience any discomfort or difficulty during the wear-in process, we encourage you to contact your podiatrist before your scheduled four-week review.
