Causes of Soreness after Acupuncture

  • Acupuncture needles can cause tiny trauma to the skin and underlying tissues. This can lead to soreness, tenderness, and bruising in some cases.
  • During an acupuncture session, the acupuncture needles guide the flow of Qi, one kind of the body’s energy to the place that causes the symptoms of the patient. You can think it is like a battle. This can cause soreness, especially in new injuries and or serious problems. It is good for the patients.
  • Due to the release of tension in the muscles. When these endorphin are released, they can result in a relaxed, almost euphoric feeling. However, this release can also cause temporary muscle soreness, particularly in areas that have a lot of tension or tightness.

If you feel soreness after an acupuncture session, consider taking a warm shower and letting the hot water soothe the affected area. It’s also advisable to schedule another acupuncture treatment within two to three days.

Causes of Bruises after Acupuncture

  • The needles insert the skin, which can damage the capillaries inside the patient’s body that the acupuncturist can not see.
  • The patient has some medicine just like anticoagulants(Clopidogrel, Warfarin, Aspirin etc.)
  • The patient’s coagulation is not good. The other reason for it is your energy is not enough. A few people have the disease cause the coagulation is bad.

You don’t need to worry about this unless you’re unsure about the severity of your coagulation issue. It’s important to see your doctor for a proper assessment.

Note:

For a new injury, particularly around joints like the ankle or wrist, a TCM practitioner may apply Chinese herbal powder to promote blood circulation and alleviate blood stasis. The injury area is then wrapped with a bandage for support. The herbs are typically changed every 2 to 4 days, unless you have an allergy to them. This method often leads to quicker recovery compared to other treatments, depending on the severity of the injury and your body’s condition.
